It will consume 25% less diesel as well as produce 13% less CO2 emissions and 90% less NOx emissions. With it, GM meets the strict standards established for 2010 and observes the laws in force in all 50 American states.
Technically, the Duramax is smaller than the previous generation and includes the aluminum cylinder heads while integrating graphite/steel alloy components.
When designing the mill, the engineers put emphasis on the reduction of engine block noise. This new generation is quieter than the other diesel engines currently on the market and eliminates vibrations. By this very fact, it compares to a V8 gas engine in terms of sound.
The new Duramax will be available for the light-duty pickup trucks GMC Sierra HD and Chevrolet Silverado HD as well as for the Hummer H2s built after 2009. The engine produces 310 hp or more, depending on the application, and 520 lb-ft of torque.
