The LF-A is the first supercar from the Lexus brand. This handbuilt car will be delivered to the world for a maximum of 500 units.Powered by a lightweight (aluminum alloy) 4.8-liter V10 engine, this rear-drive, two-seat supercar pushes over 550 horsepower and a 0-60 time of 3.7 seconds with a top speed of 202 mph.In a shocking turn of events that has caught everyone by surprise, the interest surrounding the Lexus LF-A has gone through the roof. The truth is that nobody’s really surprised to know that Lexus’ very first supercar has become such a hot item ever since it was unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show; it’s even conceivable that the all 500 units of the car could be snatched up in just a few months.
While the coupe version of the LF-A has been turning heads left and right, rumors about a roadster version of the Lexus super car has been running the mills for the past couple of months.Key to the LFA’s dynamics is its lightweight construction, with the chassis and bodywork consisting of CFRP – carbonfibre reinforced plastic. It offers four times the strength of aluminium while weighing in at around 100kg less on an LFA-sized chunk. As a result the car is 1480kg, leading to a potent 379bhp/ton power-to-weight ratio, more than the Ferrari 599. Customers can choose to delete options such as the stereo to make things even lighter, but with the LFA straddling supercar and GT genres, it’s hard to see many people obliging.
